Camlica
Posted by bombevi in Carbonated on January 21st, 2010

$1.25ish
On Central Park West, somewhere in the 90’s, there is a little deli that is the first place I’ve noticed Camlica.
It’s a Turkish soda that I found to be kind of like a mix between Sprite and seltzer water with a hint of Fresca. It was very bubbly and refreshing. Kind of watery, but not bad at all. I wish I had some in the fridge right now.

Cas Cal - Crisp White - Pear, Apricot, and Magnolia

$1.99
Cas Cal is some tasty soda. It’s not unlike a good cider or even a wine cooler, but with no alcohol. I found it at Whole Foods in Union Square and I’d pop in again to try more flavors as this one disappeared pretty fast and left a good aftertaste. So it’s gotta be a Bombevi.

Ginger Brew - Maine Root - Whole Foods, Union Square, NYC
Posted by bombevi in Carbonated, bombevi on January 8th, 2010

$1.49
This ginger brew is pretty good - a discovery that has instantly earned Bombevi status. It’s smooth and fresh right out of the bottle with a pleasantly mild sweetness and spicy ginger-jolt. The ginger kick is good but mild - it cradles your palate. If you’re looking for that good ginger snap that will make you recoil and cough, this won’t do that.
If you want some smooth ginger sweetness that you can tip and chug, get one of these. It does of course have a lot of sugar, but at $1.49 it’s a steal at the Whole Foods.

Apple Soda - Sidral Mundet
Posted by bombevi in Carbonated, bombevi on August 10th, 2009

So far I’ve only seen these in mexican food spots in select NYC locations. Every time I hit up the (original) Super Taco Plus on Willoughby St in Downtown Brooklyn, I’m poppin’ a Sidral Mundet. The flavor is stratospheric and refreshing. Make sure it’s nice and cold and oooooooowweeeeee!! It’ll make you re-consider messing with green apple sodas altogether.

Hooters Energy Drink
Posted by bombevi in Carbonated, Energy, NoveltyBevi on August 10th, 2009

After a long week of work, driving down Saw Mill River Road from Westchester County, I was in just the right delirious, traffic-beaten, ironic mood to grab the Hooters Energy from the weird little gas station.
My taste expectations low, I decided only something as ridiculous as a Hooters Energy drink could wake me from the trance I’d received trying to avoid traffic during rush hour on this Friday afternoon. And well, this shit wasn’t that bad… kind of a bubble-gum, berry, energy drink zang flavor - It’s strong odor punching you square in the nose long before you press it to your lips. It gave me that little burst I needed to transition into the weekend.
What it was doing in a Hooters can, I do not know. Honestly, anything could have come out of that can. Perhaps it’s a somewhat genius one-two punch with the ironic/novelty bevi can and the satisfactory energy drink crack flavor to get you through those strange moments, OR I was just so out of it I bought a damn Hooters drink.

Cactus Cooler

Cactus cooler is an undeniable West Coast Bombevi. No other soda has the audacity to combine orange and pineapple and somehow call itself a cactus drink. A welcome misnomer.

Manhattan Special - Espresso Coffee Soda
Posted by bombevi in Carbonated, Coffee, bombevi on June 11th, 2009

This is the manifestation of a great idea: a coffee soda! Sometimes an ice cold Manhattan Special really hits the spot when you get that rare coffee-and-soda-in-one craving.
A newcomer to the Bombevi universe, Freudian Sip, prompted me to review it after she got that rare craving and hunted one down. All in all, in a brief tandem review, we’re afraid the replay value is quite low. Let’s face it, when you want a soda you get a soda, and when you want a coffee you get a coffee.
However, beverages like this must exist to satisfy the novelty cravings we all get, therefore I will give it a Bombevi rating, for now.

Budweiser and Smirnoff Ice Green Apple
Posted by bombevi in Carbonated, Cocktails, Homemade, Malt Beverage, beer on June 11th, 2009

I know what you’re thinking, but it actually tastes good! I’m not saying I’m gonna drink ten of them this upcoming weekend, but if you want to get your young sibling/cousin drunk for the first time at Thanksgiving or something along those lines, this could be the drink.
It may set a wacky, unhealthy precident for the rest of their drinking lives. You may just want to go with 3 Miller Lites… But at least think about it.
Ed Hardy Celebrity Energy Drink - Green Apple Flavor
Posted by bombevi in Badbevi, Carbonated, Energy on June 4th, 2009

Beverly Tillz: It says on the can this is a celebrity energy drink. Celebrity my ass! Who is Ed Hardy anyway? Any celebrity I know isn’t pounding green apple energy drinks.
Drankenstein: How many celebrities do you really know?
Beverly Tillz: Who do I know that’s a celebrity? I guess no one… But I’ve met a few and none were drinking Ed Hardy.
It tastes like green apple energy drink flavor, which deviates slightly from regular energy drink flavor, but for the worse. Zero replay value. Gimme the Red Bull, Rockstar, or even Monster.
It’s a BadBevi, but not as bad as spoiled milk or anything.

Limonata - Sanpellegrino
Posted by bombevi in Badbevi, Carbonated, Juice on May 28th, 2009

This bevi got off to a good start when a friendly dude in line at the deli pointed to the can and said “That’s great packaging, they must have had a blast with that.” It’s true. The can design is very pleasing with a classy foil wrapper over the top and some nice colors.
Yet it’s important to remember the old adage and never judge a bevi by it’s cover. Despite being all natural and marketed by a reputable bubbly water company, this is a badbevi if I ever saw one. The first sensation is a smooth sweetness that unfortunately gives way to an overpowering sourness not unlike vomit.
I have a feeling this might be more acceptable, or even delicious, in orange or grapefruit flavor, but this one is pretty much the Dirty Sanchez of all natural carbonated bevis.
