Vieux Cierre - Jack The Horse Tavern - Brooklyn Heights, Bk

$11.00

$11.00

Cognac, Rye, Benedictine…  I can’t divulge the rest of the house recipe but if you like Manhattans or Sazeracs, this is a nice crisp and alcoholic cousin.  I tasted a nice hint of orange in there too.

Tucked away in the Fruit Patch of Brooklyn Heights on Cranberry St & Hicks St, Jack The Horse is a nice, chilled out restaurant and watering hole where you can get some refined cocktails and cuisine.  I’d recommend stopping in on your BK Heights promenade walkabouts.  Plenty of custom Bombevis and Aaron the bartender will probably guess your poison.

Bourbon Whiskey - Labrot & Graham Woodford Reserve

bourbon-whiskey-labrot-graham

A little disappointed that the label was botched, but requesting it through bullet-proof glass left me less than picky. Goes down smooth enough with a bark-y aftertaste.

If you’re looking to forget your name, it’ll do the trick.

Flaming Absinthe Shots - Apotheke - Chinatown, NYC

photo-88

If you hang around Apotheke long enough on a given night, you’ll witness, and perhaps partake in some flaming beverages.  Once again, splashes to Nick for wielding the fiery chalice and serving up the hottest possible house absinthe to temper all the insatiable thirst a Bombevi den creates.

Kissed by Absinthe - Apotheke - Chinatown, NYC

photo-87

This is the “Kissed by Absinthe” from the “Euphoric Enhancers” section of the menu at Apotheke in Chinatown, where the apothekers know how to hook it up.  Just name an alcohol and they handle the rest, or you can check out the menu.

This one is Cognac infused with cinnamon, clove, annise and fennel seeds, vanilla, and house absinthe, made by mixologenius, Nick.  It’s just the bomb, like everything else I had there, which was a lot.  So much that my memory is muddled and I can’t give a great review, except that you should walk into this place and sip on something, anything.  It’s expensive, but worth it if you truly seek the Bombevi.

Double J&B - Ben Gorian Airport - Tel Aviv, Israel

double-jb-on-the-rocks-ben-gorion-airport-tel-aviv-israel

After being strip-searched and interrogated by Israeli airport security for a suspicious hair-straightener in my luggage, I ungraciously insisted to the bartender, “I need a double J&B!  On the rocks…”

I was the only one drinking as it was Shabbat and there were no Jewish people at the airport.  And because everybody else around was a Christian missionary from the Southern US.

Feeling accosted by an unwarranted bodily-search and light probing, this Bombevi dulled my frazzled nerves and helped me forget, if not for a moment.

Arak - Dead Sea, Israel

arak-israel

Black liquorice flavored liquor.  Cheapest drink you can get in Israel - cheaper than water.

This stuff gets you twisted drunk very quickly and without you knowing.  As deceptive as a freight train is to a stumbling drunk man on the tracks who doesn’t see it coming.

Most people don’t like Arak, but it’s the equivalent of $4 a bottle.  It’s so strong that it overpowers ANY mixer.  Why would you drink it?  Because its CHEAP and acceptable!

The Perfect Scotch - The Varnish - Downtown LA

img_0056

Downtown LA is all about these little fake speak easys these days.
And while the trend is starting to become a little obnoxious, there
are still some tasty bevis to be had.  I checked out The Varnish the
other night.  Its a secret bar (kinda) at the back of another bar.
The ambience is nice and the bar tender knows his shit.  He
recommended a Perfect Scotch.  Its a sort of Scotch Martini poured
with equal parts sweet and sour vermouth.  They tastes balance each
other out and don’t take the scotch flavor away.  The just smooth it
up and lube it up to go down down down into your belly.  Another
pricey downtown cocktail at $11.  But worth your occasional frivolity.

Maker’s Mark - Bourbon

web-2

Maker’s - that classic, tasty bourbon.  To be enjoyed with everything seen behind it:

A little Mailer, some Cormac, Nuggets!

Herman Hesse

It’s for all levels of cocksucker status.

Sazerac - Cole’s - Downtown LA

photo-36

The Sazerac at Cole’s in Downtown LA is definitely a Bombevi.  Real real tasty.  One of the oldest-known cocktails from pre-civil war times made with rye whiskey, bitters, and lemon peel - not yellowfish tuna as this photo would suggest…

I think it’s around $8 and well worth it if you’re a Sazerac fan or in the mood to try a new tasty, slow-sippin’ cocktail in a dark, low-lit nook.

Single Malt Scotch Whiskey - Bunnahabhain 1997 Heavily Peated Unchillfiltered - Signatory Vintage

photo-17

As an amateur Scotch-hound, I’m all about the Bunnahabhain 1997 Signatory Vintage.  Belt a couple glasses of this and you’re exactly where you wanna be, as expected.  I think it goes for about $50 a bottle and ain’t bad to have lying around for those scotch moods.  royalmilewhiskies.com says its “Slightly meaty (sweet, like venison), minty, herbal and maritime all at once…and peaty of course!”
