BeviViolation #10: Getting The Last Sip Of Red Bull While Driving
Posted by bombevi in BeviViolation on January 21st, 2010

(this vehicle is moving)
I know how addicting Red Bull is and how slamming one while driving can really get you in the zone, but the fact that getting the last sip of that delicious drink while your car is moving requires you to tilt your head all the way back for about 2 seconds is dangerous and a BeviViolation.
So next time, pull it over or wait until the next stop. If you have a weird thing like I do where you think the last sip becomes undrinkable if you don’t attack it immediately, get over it.

Cas Cal - Crisp White - Pear, Apricot, and Magnolia
Posted by bombevi in Carbonated, bombevi on January 21st, 2010

$1.99
Cas Cal is some tasty soda. It’s not unlike a good cider or even a wine cooler, but with no alcohol. I found it at Whole Foods in Union Square and I’d pop in again to try more flavors as this one disappeared pretty fast and left a good aftertaste. So it’s gotta be a Bombevi.

Sweet Fruit Smoothie - Daily Juice - Manhattan, NYC

Right across the street from Artichoke (if you don’t know, they have crazy awesome pizza - always a line) on 14th St, between 1st & 2nd Avenues in Manhattan is Daily Juice. The people there were really nice so I asked what they recommended and the guy simply asked me if I wanted sweet or sour. I said sweet and he gave me nice cold smoothie packed with strawberry, banana, mango, and other sweet flavors. Normal smoothie price and Bomb.

Apple Soda - Sidral Mundet
Posted by bombevi in Carbonated, bombevi on August 10th, 2009

So far I’ve only seen these in mexican food spots in select NYC locations. Every time I hit up the (original) Super Taco Plus on Willoughby St in Downtown Brooklyn, I’m poppin’ a Sidral Mundet. The flavor is stratospheric and refreshing. Make sure it’s nice and cold and oooooooowweeeeee!! It’ll make you re-consider messing with green apple sodas altogether.

Cactus Cooler
Posted by bombevi in Carbonated, bombevi on August 10th, 2009

Cactus cooler is an undeniable West Coast Bombevi. No other soda has the audacity to combine orange and pineapple and somehow call itself a cactus drink. A welcome misnomer.

Ginger Lemonade - Rice - Fort Greene, Brooklyn

The incredibly tasty and refreshing Ginger Lemonade at Rice is no doubt a Bombevi. Strolling through the park on a hot summer day with this in hand is a good look for sure. Rice has quite a few other noteworthy drinks as well.
The lemonade was great and the ginger gingeriness was well appreciated. I will say that Rice took a long time getting me the drink, but it was worth the wait and it’s location right off Fort Greene Park is a huge plus.

Flav H2O - Pineapple

Now who wouldn’t be intrigued by this funky packaging? Soda top with water bottle bottom? It caught my eye and I had to try it. Holding it in my hand in the deli aisle and smiling was certainly the high point of my experience with Flav H2O pineapple flavor.
After one sip I was amazed by how bad it tasted. I gave it to Bevver Off Dead to make sure I wasn’t overreacting and she made the same face. Then I took another sip just to make sure. Such a BadBevi!!! It’s like you took a shot of funky water and then bit directly into the rind of a pineapple and let it sit in your mouth on a dare. Needless to say it was trashed shortly thereafter and cast off like a demon.
It was sooooo bad that I think I’m gonna get another flavor and see if this line of beverages has what it takes to be worst of the year. Worse than Venga or Fuze. Cool packaging though!

Powerball Energized Juice - Acai Berry
Posted by bombevi in DebatableBevi, Energy, Juice on July 14th, 2009

I’ve been seeing Powerball pop up in more and more places here in NYC. I’m confused by the whole disco ball thing and my first general reactions have been that this is going to be another strange, short-lived energy drink.
Well, it tastes nothing like Red Bull or even any energy drink. I realized that it is energy juice. Bevver Off Dead and I were catching a late showing of Transformers 2 and decided to pop one before the flick to try something new, have a laugh, and maybe get enough energon to sit through the 2.5 hours.
It tastes like grape juice and gave us no noticeable energon or impromptu disco dancing. I’d say it’s a DebatableBevi with little or no replay value.

Life Is Sweeter Without Sugar - Ito En
Posted by bombevi in Seen on the Streets, Tea on July 14th, 2009

Amen, Ito En. I love your work. Sooooo many beverages are loaded with sugar that sipping on a nice Ito En is truly a breath of fresh air. But I will say that during Summer life is not colder with a plastic bottle!
All this plastic vs. glass banter in the last week is prompting me to do some research on economy and sustainability in packaging. I may eat my words in the end when pondering the ultimate and conscious Bombevi. Stay sippin’ and never slippin’ until then.
