Vieux Cierre - Jack The Horse Tavern - Brooklyn Heights, Bk

$11.00

Cognac, Rye, Benedictine…  I can’t divulge the rest of the house recipe but if you like Manhattans or Sazeracs, this is a nice crisp and alcoholic cousin.  I tasted a nice hint of orange in there too.

Tucked away in the Fruit Patch of Brooklyn Heights on Cranberry St & Hicks St, Jack The Horse is a nice, chilled out restaurant and watering hole where you can get some refined cocktails and cuisine.  I’d recommend stopping in on your BK Heights promenade walkabouts.  Plenty of custom Bombevis and Aaron the bartender will probably guess your poison.

Sazerac - The Randolph - LES, NYC

photo7

This was one of the best Sazeracs I’ve had in NYC thus far - I was gently taken into that sazzy zone that many know about.  I liked the flavor and it came in a big glass, although I think it’s something like $14-$15…

Beverly Tillz, FTBev, Bevrina and I met some bev-friendlies from LA at a Le Tourment Absinthe promotion at this low-key, goodtime spot.  With bevi-cunning and a little luck I was drinking these for free (before the long preperation of the saz began, the glass is rinsed with ansinthe, thus using the absinthe and making my drink free).  If I was paying, I don’t think I would have had 3 of them.

Sazerac - Walter Foods - Williamsburg, BK

photo-100

This was a pretty good sazerac over at Walter Foods.  It was good enough that if I were to eat there again, which I would, I would say “ah they have a pretty good sazerac here if you’re in the mood for one.”

But not good enough to say “We gotta go to this one place just for the sazerac.”  Or “They do a really great sazerac here.  You should hook one up.”

All in all, they were bomb enough (I had 2) and my friend, drinking sazeracs for the first time ever, liked them and had 2.

Sazerac - SevenGrand in LA

photo-45

SevenGrand makes a damn good Sazerac:  Rye Whiskey, Bitters, and Lemon Peel.  Not as good as the Sazerac at nearby Cole’s though…

But if you’re at SevenGrand, stay put and get it.  It’s $7.  This joint is also home of the Los Angeles, a very tasty old time swangin’ twist on a whiskey sour ($12) AND they get an A+ for best glasses/barware.

Sazerac - Cole’s - Downtown LA

photo-36

The Sazerac at Cole’s in Downtown LA is definitely a Bombevi.  Real real tasty.  One of the oldest-known cocktails from pre-civil war times made with rye whiskey, bitters, and lemon peel - not yellowfish tuna as this photo would suggest…

I think it’s around $8 and well worth it if you’re a Sazerac fan or in the mood to try a new tasty, slow-sippin’ cocktail in a dark, low-lit nook.
